Jane Lynch's divorce gets judge's nod

Divorces may be a common occurrence in Minnesota, but same-sex divorces are not. Same-sex divorces are still rare in the country, and high asset divorces between same-sex couples are especially uncommon. In a recent case of a high asset divorce between a same-sex couple, a judge has given the final verdict on actress Jane Lynch's divorce with her wife of more than four years. According to reports, after Lynch and clinical psychologist Dr. Lara Embry married four years ago, conflicts arose between them, culminating in the divorce.

The Superior Court Judge permitted the pair's divorce and entered the judgment recently. The separation agreement between Lynch and Dr. Embry states that the latter is to receive 50 percent of royalties from several entertainment projects belonging to Lynch.

The couple got married on Memorial Day in 2012. In July of 2013, Lynch filed for separation from Dr. Embry stating that there was an irretrievable breakdown in the marriage and irreconcilable differences. The award-winning actress will be parting with a substantial portion of her royalty now that the divorce has been finalized.

The revised body of laws on same-sex divorce in the country is financially good news for splitting same-sex couples. Same-sex marriages have historically faced a number of problems. Non-uniformity in laws, based on where they get married, settled or divorced are responsible for such problems. Both financially and legally, it is a huge hassle during a separation. There are numerous specialized organizations throughout the state specializing in divorce between same-sex couples.
